About Charlotte Harbor Reef
Charlotte Harbor Reef is an artificial reef in the Charlotte Harbor region of Florida's Gulf state waters, within reach of anglers running out of Fort Myers. Sheepshead hold on the structure from November through March, while gray snapper take over the reef from May through August. Spotted seatrout peak in March and April, common snook run strongest from April through June, and red drum move through from August to October. Spanish mackerel show in two windows, March–April and September–November, when casting small spoons, jigs, and plugs or chumming with live shiners and cut bait draws them up around the reef. Down on the structure itself, bottom fishing with live shrimp, fiddler crabs, and sand fleas targets sheepshead, and the same approach with live pilchards, cut bait, or squid works the reef for gray snapper.
