About G-H Reef
G-H Reef is an artificial reef in the Florida Gulf state waters off Fort Myers, part of the Charlotte Harbor Region fishery. Spanish Mackerel peak from March through April and again from September through November, while Sheepshead take over the structure from November through March and Gray Snapper hold tight to the reef from May through August. Gag Grouper, Cobia, and King Mackerel round out the species list and add larger targets to the mix. Bottom fishing with live shrimp, fiddler crabs, or sand fleas works the reef for Sheepshead, and the same approach with live pilchards, cut bait, or squid draws Gray Snapper out of the structure. For Spanish Mackerel, anglers cast small spoons, jigs, and plugs over the reef or chum with live shiners and cut bait to hold schools near the boat.
