About Green Point
Green Point is a sand-bottom drop-off on the exposed outer edge of the Charlotte Harbor region near Fort Myers, with depths running from 5 to 15 feet. Common snook peak here from April through June, gray snapper from May through August, and red drum from August through October, while sheepshead carry the cooler months from November through March and Spanish mackerel also move through the area. Live bait fishing with live pilchards, live pinfish, or live shrimp worked along the edge of the drop-off accounts for most of the snook and redfish action. Paddle tail swimbaits and soft plastic jerkbaits cover the transition between the shallow sand and deeper water. Through winter, bottom fishing with fiddler crabs, sand fleas, or live shrimp targets sheepshead holding tight to the bottom, and the same bottom approach with cut bait or squid takes gray snapper through the summer.
