About Knapps Point
Knapps Point is an outer, exposed sand-bottom drop-off near Fort Myers in the Charlotte Harbor region of Florida's Gulf state waters, where the bottom falls from 15 to 45 feet. Common Snook peak from April through June, Gray Snapper from May through August, Red Drum from August through October, and Sheepshead from November through March, with Spanish Mackerel also working the area. Live bait fishing with live pilchards, live pinfish, or live shrimp along the edge of the drop takes snook and redfish, while jigging with bucktail jigs or jig heads with soft plastics covers the deeper slope. Gray Snapper respond to bottom fishing with live shrimp, cut bait, or squid on the sand below the break. In the cooler months, bottom fishing with fiddler crabs, sand fleas, or live shrimp targets Sheepshead holding along the depth change.
