About Long Bar
Long Bar is an exposed sand flat off Fort Myers in the Charlotte Harbor region of Florida's Gulf state waters, with depths running from 15 to 35 feet. Red drum peak here from August through October, spotted seatrout from March through April, common snook from April through June, and sheepshead from November through March. Live bait fishing with live pilchards, live pinfish, or live shrimp is the dominant approach for both red drum and snook across the sandy bottom. Trout respond to popping cork with shrimp and paddle tail grubs worked over the bar. In the cooler months, bottom fishing with fiddler crabs, sand fleas, or live shrimp targets sheepshead.
