About Pace Reef

Pace Reef is an artificial reef in the Gulf state waters of the Charlotte Harbor region off Fort Myers, Florida. Its structure holds Sheepshead from November through March, Gray Snapper from May through August, and Spanish Mackerel during the spring run in March and April and again from September through November, with Gag Grouper, King Mackerel, and Cobia also working the reef. Sheepshead anglers bottom fish tight to the structure with live shrimp, fiddler crabs, sand fleas, or oysters, and some switch to jigheads tipped with shrimp or fiddler crabs. Gray Snapper respond to bottom rigs baited with live shrimp, live pilchards, cut bait, or squid, while live pinfish fished near the reef draw the larger fish. When Spanish Mackerel move over the reef, casting small spoons, jigs, and plugs or chumming with live shiners and cut bait brings them into range.
