About Piney Point
Piney Point is a protected sand flat near Fort Myers in the Charlotte Harbor region of Florida's Gulf state waters, with depths running 5 to 15 feet. Sheepshead anchor the cool months from November through March, Spotted Seatrout peak in March and April, and Common Snook take over from April through June. Gray Snapper hold through the summer from May to August, Red Drum peak from August into October, and Spanish Mackerel also move through these waters. Drifting the flat with paddle tail grubs or a popping cork with shrimp covers the open sand efficiently for seatrout. For snook and redfish, live bait fishing with live pilchards or live pinfish is the dominant approach, while bottom fishing with live shrimp or fiddler crabs produces sheepshead in winter.
