About Redfish Point
Redfish Point is an exposed sand-bottom drop-off off Fort Myers in Florida's Charlotte Harbor region, where the bottom falls from 15 to 45 feet along the outer edge. Sheepshead hold here from November through March, and bottom fishing with live shrimp, fiddler crabs, or sand fleas works the slope where the sand breaks away. Spotted seatrout peak in March and April, common snook follow from April through June, and gray snapper take over from May through August, with live pilchards and live shrimp fished on the bottom drawing strikes along the deeper edge. Red drum move onto the point from August through October and respond to live pinfish, live pilchards, and cut mullet worked along the transition from shallow sand to deeper water. Spanish mackerel also roam the open water around the drop-off, rounding out a species mix that keeps the point productive across the calendar.
