About Shell Point
Shell Point is an outer, exposed drop-off near Fort Myers in the Charlotte Harbor region of Florida's Gulf state waters, where mixed bottom falls away across a depth range of 260 to 660 feet. Sheepshead lead the cool-season fishery from November through March, Spotted Seatrout peak in March and April, and Common Snook take over from April through June. Gray Snapper peak from May through August, Red Drum run strongest from August through October, and Spanish Mackerel round out the species list. Bottom fishing with live shrimp, fiddler crabs, or sand fleas targets Sheepshead along the mixed structure, while Gray Snapper respond to live pilchards, cut bait, and squid fished tight to the bottom. Live bait fishing with pilchards, pinfish, and shrimp works for Red Drum and Common Snook, and jigging with bucktail jigs or jig heads with soft plastics covers the drop-off edges.
