About Starvation Flats
Starvation Flats is an exposed sand flat near Fort Myers in Florida's Charlotte Harbor region, with water running from 0 to 10 feet deep. Spotted Seatrout peak in March and April, Common Snook take over from April through June, and Red Drum hold the flat in their August to October peak. Sheepshead fill the cooler months from November through March. Live bait fishing with live pilchards, live pinfish, or live shrimp is the dominant approach for both Red Drum and Common Snook across the shallow sand. Seatrout respond to soft plastic jerkbaits and popping cork with shrimp, while Sheepshead anglers rely on bottom fishing with fiddler crabs and sand fleas.
