About Village 1 Reef
Village 1 Reef is an artificial reef in the Gulf of Mexico off Fort Myers, Florida, within the Charlotte Harbor Region of Florida's Gulf state waters. Sheepshead hold on the structure from November through March, Gray Snapper peak from May through August, and Spanish Mackerel move through in March–April and again from September through November. Gag Grouper, King Mackerel, and Cobia also use the reef. For Sheepshead, anglers drop live shrimp, fiddler crabs, sand fleas, or oysters tight to the structure, while Gray Snapper take live shrimp, live pilchards, cut bait, or squid fished on the bottom. Spanish Mackerel feeding above the reef respond to small spoons, jigs, plugs, and soft plastics cast into the water column, with chumming using live shiners, cut bait, or frozen chum to hold schools near the boat.
