About Wiggins Pass 5 Mile Reef
Wiggins Pass 5 Mile Reef is an artificial reef in federal Gulf waters off southwest Florida, positioned west of Wiggins Pass along the coast between Fort Myers and Naples. The structure holds a mix of bottom and pelagic species, with Red Snapper, Red Grouper, Gag Grouper, and Greater Amberjack working the reef while King Mackerel patrol the water column above it. Gray Snapper peak from May through August and stay tight to the structure, where bottom fishing with live shrimp, live pilchards, cut bait, or squid is the dominant approach. Live bait fishing with pinfish or live pilchards draws Gray Snapper up off the reef, and jigging with bucktail jigs or soft plastics on jig heads covers the edges of the structure.
