About Cannon Patch

Cannon Patch is an exposed sand flat off Islamorada in the Florida Keys, holding 5 to 10 feet of water within the state waters of the Southwest Region. Permit peak here from March through May and Mutton Snapper from March through June, while Bonefish run strongest from March through May and again in September and October. Great Barracuda dominate the flat in winter, peaking from December through February, and Cobia also figure among the spot's targets. Over the open sand, anglers sight cast to Permit with live crabs, crab flies, or bucktail jigs, and sight fish Bonefish on spinning tackle with live shrimp or soft plastic shrimp. Barracuda take tube lures and topwater plugs, and Mutton Snapper respond to bottom fishing with live ballyhoo, cut ballyhoo, or squid.
