About Conch Keys Banks

Conch Keys Banks is an outer, exposed sand flat off Islamorada in the Florida Keys, with depths running 5 to 10 feet across open bottom. Permit and bonefish both peak here from March through May, and bonefish return for a second push in September and October. Anglers sight cast live crabs, crab flies, or bucktail jigs to permit tailing over the sand, while bonefish draw live shrimp and soft plastic shrimp on spinning tackle or shrimp flies on the fly rod. Great barracuda take over from December through February and respond to tube lures, topwater plugs, and jerkbaits cast to fish holding over the bright bottom. Mutton snapper peak from March through June and hit live ballyhoo, live pilchards, and squid fished on the bottom along the bank, and cobia also cruise the area.
