About Peterson Key Bank
Peterson Key Bank is an exposed sand flat on the outer edge of the Islamorada backcountry, holding 5 to 10 feet of water in the Southwest Region of Florida Keys state waters. Permit and bonefish both peak here from March through May, with a second bonefish window in September and October. Great barracuda dominate the winter months from December through February, and mutton snapper peak from March into June, with cobia also cruising the bank. The open sand bottom suits sight casting, with live crabs and bucktail jigs for permit, and live shrimp or soft plastic shrimp on spinning tackle for bonefish. Barracuda respond to tube lures and topwater plugs cast to fish holding over the flat, while mutton snapper take live ballyhoo and squid fished on the bottom.
