About Dave Foy Bank

Dave Foy Bank is an exposed sand flat off Islamorada in the southwest region of Florida Keys state waters, with depths running 10 to 15 feet across open bottom. Bonefish peak here from March through May and again in September and October, while permit share the March-to-May window and tarpon move through from March into June. Over the clean sand, sight fishing with spinning tackle and live shrimp, bucktail jigs, or soft plastic shrimp is the primary approach for bonefish, and fly anglers work shrimp flies and crab flies along the same lanes. Permit respond to sight casting with live crabs, crab flies, or soft plastic crabs, and tarpon fall to live bait fishing with live mullet, live pinfish, or live crabs. Red drum also hold on the bank, and great barracuda take over in December through February, when sight casting tube lures, topwater plugs, and jerkbaits draws strikes across the flat.
