About Jewfish Bush Banks
Jewfish Bush Banks is an exposed sand flat off Islamorada in the Florida Keys, where clear water runs 5 to 10 feet deep over open bottom on the outer edge of the backcountry. Permit and bonefish anchor the spring fishery, with both peaking from March through May and bonefish returning strong again in September and October. Sight casting with live crabs, crab flies, or bucktail jigs works well for cruising permit, while bonefish respond to live shrimp or soft plastic shrimp presented on spinning tackle as they tail across the sand. Great barracuda take over the flat from December through February and strike tube lures and topwater plugs cast to fish holding in the shallows. Mutton snapper peak from March through June and fall to bottom fishing with live ballyhoo, cut ballyhoo, or squid along the deeper margins, and cobia also move through the area.
