About Long Key Viaduct Reef
Long Key Viaduct Reef is an artificial reef in the Federal Atlantic Waters off the Florida Keys, fished out of Islamorada. Its structure holds bottom species through the year, with Mutton Snapper peaking from March through June and Black Grouper peaking from November through February. Anglers target both with bottom fishing, using live ballyhoo, cut ballyhoo, and live pilchards for snapper and live pinfish and live grunts for grouper, while jigging bucktail jigs works the reef for either species. In open water around the reef, Dorado peak from March through July and respond to trolled rigged ballyhoo, skirted ballyhoo, and trolling lures. King Mackerel, Wahoo, and Greater Amberjack round out the species mix and add variety to a day split between the bottom and the water column.
