About Old Dan Bank
Old Dan Bank is an exposed sand flat off Islamorada in the Florida Keys, sitting on the outer edge where open water meets 5 to 10 feet of clear, shallow bottom. Permit and bonefish are the primary targets, with both peaking from March through May and bonefish showing again from September through October. Permit respond to sight casting with live crabs, crab flies, bucktail jigs, and soft plastic crabs, while bonefish fall to sight fishing with spinning tackle using live shrimp, bucktail jigs, and soft plastic shrimp. Great barracuda take over the flat from December through February and hit tube lures, topwater plugs, jerkbaits, and live pilchards cast to cruising fish. Mutton snapper peak from March through June and come to bottom fishing with live ballyhoo, cut ballyhoo, live pilchards, and squid, and cobia also move across the bank.
