About Pontoon Bank
Pontoon Bank is an exposed sand flat off Islamorada in the Florida Keys, lying in 5 to 10 feet of water along the outer edge of the shallows. Bonefish peak here from March through May and again in September and October, while permit share the spring window from March to May and tarpon move through from March into June. Over the open sand bottom, anglers sight fish for bonefish with spinning tackle and live shrimp, bucktail jigs, or soft plastic shrimp, and they sight cast to permit with live crabs, crab flies, or soft plastic crabs. Tarpon fall to live bait fishing with live mullet, live pinfish, or live crabs. Great barracuda take over in winter, peaking December through February, when sight casting tube lures, topwater plugs, and jerkbaits covers the flat, and red drum round out the species list.
