About Sound Point
Sound Point is an outer, exposed drop-off off Islamorada in the Florida Keys, where mixed bottom falls from 15 to 60 feet. Yellowtail Snapper peak here from May through July, Mutton Snapper from March through June, and Black Grouper and Great Barracuda take over the cooler months from November through February. Gray Snapper, Hogfish, and King Mackerel round out the species mix along the edge. Yellowtail respond to chumming and flatline fishing with cut ballyhoo, silversides, or live pilchards drifted back toward the drop. Mutton Snapper and Black Grouper hold tight to the deeper mixed bottom, where bottom fishing with live pinfish, live grunts, or live ballyhoo works the structure along the slope.
