About Spiegel Grove Reef

Spiegel Grove Reef is an artificial reef in the federal Atlantic waters off the Florida Keys, offshore of Islamorada. Black grouper hold tight to the structure and peak from November through February, while mutton snapper move in strongest from March through June. Dorado peak from March through July in the blue water around the reef, and king mackerel, wahoo, and greater amberjack round out the species that patrol the site. Bottom fishing with live pinfish, live grunts, or live ballyhoo dropped straight onto the structure targets grouper, and the same approach with cut ballyhoo or squid works for mutton snapper. On the surface, trolling rigged ballyhoo and skirted ballyhoo covers water for dorado moving past the reef.
