About The Rocks

The Rocks is an exposed rocky flat off Islamorada, Florida, sitting in 5 to 10 feet of water along the outer edge of the Florida Keys State Waters Southwest Region. Permit and bonefish peak here from March through May, with a second bonefish window in September and October, while mutton snapper run strongest from March through June and great barracuda take over from December through February. The hard rock bottom and clear, shallow water set up sight casting for permit with live crabs, crab flies, or bucktail jigs, and sight fishing with spinning tackle for bonefish using live shrimp or soft plastic shrimp. Mutton snapper respond to bottom fishing with live ballyhoo, cut ballyhoo, or squid worked tight to the rock. Barracuda cruise the same structure and hit tube lures, topwater plugs, and jerkbaits, and cobia round out the species list.
