About Calda Bank
Calda Bank is an exposed sand flat on the outer edge of the Key West backcountry, holding 5 to 10 feet of water in the Florida Keys State Waters Southwest Region. Bonefish and red drum work the open sand, while permit peak from March through May and tarpon move across the flat from March through June. Permit anglers rely on live crabs and live shrimp, with crab flies and soft plastic crab jigs presented to fish tailing or cruising over the bottom. Tarpon fall to live mullet, live pinfish and live crabs on the drift, and fly anglers present toad flies and worm flies to fish in the shallower water. Great barracuda take over in the cooler months of December through February, striking tube lures, needlefish lures and topwater plugs cast across the exposed sand.
