About East Maryland Shoal Hump
East Maryland Shoal Hump is a rocky pinnacle rising from the outer, exposed waters southwest of Key West, with depths ranging from 15 to 35 feet over hard bottom. Yellowtail Snapper peak here from May through July, and chumming and drifting with chum blocks, glass minnows, and live pilchards draws them up off the rock. Mutton Snapper peak from March through June and respond to bottom fishing with cut ballyhoo, squid, or cut bonito, while Gray Snapper, Hogfish, and King Mackerel round out the resident mix. Winter brings Black Grouper to the structure in January and February, when bottom fishing with live pinfish or live grunts tight to the pinnacle produces the strongest results. Great Barracuda peak from December through February and strike tube lures, topwater plugs, and needlefish lures cast across the shallower top of the hump.
