About Frankfort Bank

Frankfort Bank is an exposed sand flat off Key West in the Southwest Region of the Florida Keys State Waters, holding 10 to 15 feet of water along the outer edge. Permit are the headline target, peaking from March through May, when anglers work live crabs and live shrimp across the sand or present crab flies and soft plastic crab jigs to cruising fish. Mutton snapper peak from March through June and respond to bottom fishing with cut ballyhoo, squid, cut bonito, and live pilchards. Great barracuda take over in the cooler months, peaking December through February, and anglers target them by casting tube lures, needlefish lures, and topwater plugs across the open flat. Bonefish and cobia also move through the area, rounding out a mixed lineup over the sand bottom.
