About Key West Gulfside Reef

Key West Gulfside Reef is an artificial reef off the Gulf side of Key West, Florida, within the Florida Keys State Waters Southwest Region. The structure holds Tarpon, Common Snook, Mutton Snapper, Great Barracuda, and Gray Snapper. Tarpon and Mutton Snapper peak from March through June, and Great Barracuda peak from December through February. Tarpon respond to live bait drifting with live crabs, live mullet, live pinfish, or live shrimp worked along the reef. Mutton Snapper come to bottom fishing with cut ballyhoo, live pilchards, squid, or cut bonito, while Great Barracuda chase tube lures, topwater plugs, and needlefish lures cast over the structure.
