About Key West Tournament Reef

Key West Tournament Reef is an artificial reef in federal Atlantic waters off the Florida Keys, south of Key West. The structure draws a mixed offshore lineup, with dorado peaking March through July, mutton snapper from March to June, and black grouper in January and February, while greater amberjack also hold on the reef. King mackerel run strongest from November through March, and wahoo peak in January and again from September through December. Anglers work the bottom over the reef with cut ballyhoo, live pilchards, and squid for mutton snapper, and with live pinfish and live grunts for black grouper. Above the structure, slow trolling live blue runners and live goggle-eyes targets king mackerel, and high-speed trolling with bullet-head and skirted trolling lures covers ground for wahoo.
