About Lavina Bank
Lavina Bank is an outer, exposed sand flat west of Key West in the Southwest Region of Florida Keys state waters, with depths running 15 to 35 feet. Permit are the headline species, peaking from March through May, and anglers target them most with live crabs and live shrimp, with crab flies and soft plastic crab jigs as alternatives over the open sand. Mutton Snapper peak from March through June and respond to bottom fishing with cut ballyhoo, squid, cut bonito, or live pilchards, while flatlined live pinfish or cut ballyhoo also draw strikes. Great Barracuda reach their peak from December through February and hit tube lures, needlefish lures, and topwater plugs cast across the bank. Bonefish and Cobia round out the species list on this stretch of exposed sand bottom.
