About Monday Key
Monday Key is a sand-bottom drop-off off Key West, Florida, where the seafloor falls from 10 to 25 feet at a mid-exposure edge within the Florida Keys State Waters Southwest Region. Tarpon and mutton snapper both peak from March through June, while great barracuda reach their peak from December through February, and gray snapper and common snook also use the structure. Tarpon anglers work the edge with live bait drifting using live crabs, live mullet, live pinfish, or live shrimp, and fly fishing with toad flies and worm flies covers fish moving along the drop. Mutton snapper respond to bottom fishing with cut ballyhoo, squid, live pilchards, or cut bonito placed along the sand at the base of the slope. In the cooler months, casting tube lures, needlefish lures, and topwater plugs across the shallower lip of the drop-off targets barracuda.
