About Pearl Bank

Pearl Bank is an exposed sand flat off Key West, Florida, sitting in 5 to 10 feet of water within the Florida Keys State Waters Southwest Region. Bonefish and red drum work the open sand here, while permit peak from March through May and tarpon move across the flat from March through June. Permit anglers rely on live bait fishing with live crabs or live shrimp, and also present crab flies or soft plastic crab jigs over the clean bottom. Tarpon respond to live bait drifting with live mullet, live pinfish, or live crabs, and fly anglers target them with toad flies and worm flies. From December through February, great barracuda take over, and casting tube lures, needlefish lures, or topwater plugs across the shallow sand draws aggressive strikes.
