About Stargazer Reef
Stargazer Reef is an artificial reef off Key West in the Southwest Region of the Florida Keys state waters. Yellowtail Snapper peak here from May through July, and Mutton Snapper run strongest from March through June. The cooler months bring King Mackerel from November through March, Great Barracuda from December through February, and Black Grouper in January and February. Hogfish and Gray Snapper round out the resident mix around the structure. Anglers chum and drift with chum blocks, glass minnows, and live pilchards to pull yellowtail up off the reef, while bottom fishing with cut ballyhoo, squid, or live pinfish works the structure for muttons and grouper.
