About USS Curb Reef
USS Curb Reef is an artificial reef in federal Atlantic waters off Key West, Florida, where the structure concentrates both bottom dwellers and passing pelagics. Mutton Snapper peak from March through June and respond to bottom fishing with cut ballyhoo, live pilchards, squid, or cut bonito, while Black Grouper peak in January and February and take live pinfish, live grunts, or live ballyhoo fished tight to the reef. Greater Amberjack also hold over the structure alongside these bottom species. In the cooler months, King Mackerel peak from November through March and fall to slow trolling with live blue runners, live goggle-eyes, or live pilchards along the edges of the reef. Wahoo peak in January and again from September through December, and Dorado run from March through July, so anglers working the surrounding water switch to high-speed trolling with bullet-head lures or trolling rigged ballyhoo and skirted trolling lures depending on the season.
