About Wilkes Barre-Bow Section Reef

Wilkes Barre-Bow Section Reef is an artificial reef in the Florida Keys State Waters off Key West, where the bow section of the Wilkes Barre forms fish-holding structure in the Southwest Region. Yellowtail Snapper peak from May through July and respond to chumming and drifting with chum blocks, glass minnows, cut ballyhoo, and live pilchards. Mutton Snapper peak from March through June and Black Grouper in January and February, and bottom fishing tight to the wreck with cut ballyhoo, live pinfish, live grunts, or squid targets both, alongside resident Hogfish and Gray Snapper. In the cooler months King Mackerel peak from November through March and fall to slow trolling with live ballyhoo, live blue runners, and live goggle-eyes over the structure. Great Barracuda peak from December through February and strike tube lures, needlefish lures, and topwater plugs cast across the reef.
