About Newfound Harbor Keys
Newfound Harbor Keys is an outer, exposed drop-off near Marathon in the Florida Keys, where mixed bottom falls away through depths of 10 to 35 feet. Yellowtail Snapper and Gray Snapper peak here from May through July, Mutton Snapper peak from April through June, and Great Barracuda take over from November through February. Hogfish, Black Grouper, and King Mackerel also work the edge. Chumming and flatlining with silversides, glass minnows, or live pilchards pulls Yellowtail Snapper up off the drop-off, while bottom fishing live pilchards or live pinfish along the mixed bottom targets Mutton Snapper. Barracuda respond to casting tube lures, topwater plugs, and spoons over the shallower lip of the ledge.
