About Wisteria Island

Wisteria Island is an exposed sand flat off Key West, Florida, in the Southwest Region of the Florida Keys state waters, with depths running 10 to 15 feet across open bottom. Mutton Snapper peak from March through June, and Yellowtail Snapper take over from May through July. Gray Snapper, Hogfish, and King Mackerel round out the warm-season targets. Winter belongs to Black Grouper, which peak in January and February, and Great Barracuda, which peak from December through February. Anglers chum and drift with chum blocks, glass minnows, and live pilchards to pull yellowtail up off the sand, while barracuda cruising the shallow flat respond to casting with tube lures, needlefish lures, and topwater plugs.
