About Bahia Honda Reef

Bahia Honda Reef is an artificial reef in federal Atlantic waters off the Florida Keys, positioned off Marathon on the ocean side of the island chain. Dorado peak from March through July, when trolling rigged ballyhoo, skirted trolling lures, feathers, and diving plugs covers water efficiently, and live pilchards drifted near the structure draw strikes from fish holding close. Mutton snapper peak from April through June and respond to bottom fishing with live pilchards, ballyhoo plugs, cut bait, and live pinfish, while bucktail jigs and knocker rigs work the same structure from above. Black grouper peak from December through February, with live pinfish, live grunts, and live ballyhoo fished on the bottom tight to the reef. King mackerel, wahoo, and greater amberjack round out the species that hold around the structure.
