About Burnt Point
Burnt Point is an outer, exposed rock drop-off in the Florida Keys State Waters Southwest Region off Marathon, with depths running from 260 to 660 feet. Yellowtail Snapper and Gray Snapper peak from May through July, and Mutton Snapper run strongest from April through June, while Hogfish, Black Grouper, and King Mackerel also work the rocky edge. Anglers target yellowtail by chumming and flatlining silversides, glass minnows, cut ballyhoo, or live pilchards, and they pursue muttons with bottom fishing using live pilchards, ballyhoo plugs, or live pinfish along the rock. Gray Snapper respond to chumming and bottom fishing with cut ballyhoo, live shrimp, or cut pilchards. Great Barracuda take over from November through February and strike tube lures, topwater plugs, and spoons on the cast.
