About Sideboard Bank

Sideboard Bank is an outer, exposed sand flat in the Florida Keys State Waters off Marathon, holding 5 to 10 feet of water in the Southwest Region. Bonefish cruise the sand with peaks in April–May and September–October, permit and tarpon both peak from March through June, great barracuda take over from November through February, and red drum round out the species list. Sight casting drives the bonefish and permit fishing here, with shrimp-pattern flies and crab-pattern flies for bonefish and live crabs or bucktail jigs for permit. Tarpon anglers drift live crabs, live mullet, or live pinfish across the bank, while barracuda respond to tube lures, topwater plugs, and spoons cast over the open sand.
