About Coffins Patch Hump
Coffins Patch Hump is a rock pinnacle rising from exposed outer waters off Marathon in the Florida Keys, with depths running from 15 to 30 feet over the structure. The hump holds Black Grouper, Greater Amberjack, King Mackerel, and Wahoo, while Mutton Snapper peak from April through June and Dorado move through from March to July. Mutton Snapper respond to bottom fishing with live pilchards, live pinfish, ballyhoo plugs, or cut bait worked tight to the rock, and anglers also jig bucktail jigs, knocker rigs, and soft plastic jigs along the pinnacle's edges. Flat-line fishing with live pilchards or ballyhoo plugs covers fish suspended above the structure. For Dorado, crews troll rigged ballyhoo, skirted trolling lures, feathers, and diving plugs across the surrounding open water and switch to sight casting with live pilchards, cut ballyhoo chunks, or bucktail jigs when fish show at the surface.
