About Delta Shoal Hump
Delta Shoal Hump is a rocky pinnacle rising from 45 feet to within 25 feet of the surface in the exposed federal Atlantic waters off Marathon in the Florida Keys. The hard bottom holds Black Grouper, Greater Amberjack, and Mutton Snapper, while King Mackerel, Wahoo, and Dorado patrol the open water around the structure. Mutton Snapper peak from April through June, when bottom fishing with live pilchards, live pinfish, or cut bait along the base of the hump takes the most fish, and jigging with bucktail jigs or knocker rigs works the rock in the upper water column. Dorado peak from March through July, and trolling rigged ballyhoo or skirted trolling lures past the pinnacle covers the most ground. Live bait drifting with live pilchards or live goggle eyes over the rock puts baits in front of both bottom fish and passing pelagics.
