About East Sister Rock
East Sister Rock is an exposed rocky drop-off off Marathon in the Florida Keys, where hard bottom falls away in 5 to 10 feet of water on the outer edge of the Southwest Region state waters. Yellowtail Snapper and Gray Snapper peak here from May through July, while Mutton Snapper run strongest from April through June. Chumming and flatlining with silversides, glass minnows, and cut ballyhoo pulls yellowtail up off the rock. Bottom fishing with live pilchards or live pinfish works the ledge for muttons. Great Barracuda take over from November through February and respond to casting with tube lures, topwater plugs, and spoons along the drop. Hogfish, Black Grouper, and King Mackerel round out the species that hold around the structure.
