About Jack Bank
Jack Bank is an exposed sand flat off Marathon, Florida, sitting in the Southwest Region of Florida Keys State Waters with depths running 10 to 15 feet. Permit and tarpon both peak from March through June, while bonefish show strongest in April and May and again in September and October. Great barracuda take over the bank from November through February, and red drum round out the species list. Over the open sand bottom, sight casting is the dominant approach for bonefish and permit, with live shrimp and crab-pattern flies working for bonefish and live crabs and bucktail jigs drawing strikes from permit. Tarpon anglers drift live mullet or live pinfish across the flat, and barracuda hunters cast tube lures, topwater plugs, and spoons through the cooler months.
