About Rachel Bank

Rachel Bank is an exposed sand flat off Marathon in the Florida Keys State Waters Southwest Region, with water running 10 to 15 feet deep along its outer edge. Bonefish move across the sand in April–May and again in September–October, and anglers target them by sight casting with live shrimp, small bucktail jigs, or shrimp-pattern and crab-pattern flies. Permit and tarpon both peak from March through June. Permit respond to sight casting with live crabs, crab flies, and bucktail jigs, while tarpon fall to live bait drifting with live crabs, live mullet, live pinfish, or live shrimp. Great barracuda take over the bank from November through February and hit tube lures, topwater plugs, swimming plugs, and spoons cast across the open sand, and red drum round out the species list.
