About South East Washerwoman Shoal Hump
South East Washerwoman Shoal Hump is a rocky pinnacle rising off the outer, exposed reef line near Marathon, with depths running from 15 to 35 feet across its crown and flanks. Yellowtail Snapper and Gray Snapper peak here from May through July, while Mutton Snapper hit their stride from April through June, and Hogfish, Black Grouper, and King Mackerel round out the resident mix. Chumming and flatlining with silversides, glass minnows, or cut ballyhoo draws yellowtail up off the rock, and bottom fishing with live pilchards or live pinfish along the edges of the hump targets muttons holding tight to structure. Gray Snapper respond to chumming and bottom fishing with live shrimp or cut pilchards, with bucktail jigs working the same rocky relief. From November through February, Great Barracuda patrol the pinnacle, and casting tube lures, topwater plugs, or spoons across the shallower top draws strikes in the cooler months.
