About West Delta Shoal Hump
West Delta Shoal Hump is a rock pinnacle rising from exposed outer waters off Marathon in the Florida Keys, with depths running from 35 to 65 feet across the structure. Mutton Snapper peak here from April through June, and Dorado move through the surrounding open water from March through July. Bottom fishing with live pilchards, live pinfish, cut bait, or ballyhoo plugs is the dominant approach for Mutton Snapper holding tight to the rock, and jigging with bucktail jigs or knocker rigs works the same ground. For Dorado, trolling rigged ballyhoo, skirted trolling lures, feathers, or diving plugs along the edges of the hump covers the most water. The pinnacle also holds Black Grouper and Greater Amberjack on the structure, while King Mackerel and Wahoo patrol the water column above it.
