About Berry Patch Reef
Berry Patch Reef is an artificial reef in federal Atlantic waters off Southeast Florida, southeast of Miami, where placed structure draws both bottom dwellers and passing pelagics. Black Grouper and Greater Amberjack hold tight to the reef, while Mutton Snapper peak from April through June and respond to bottom fishing with live ballyhoo, live pilchards, cut bait, or squid dropped directly onto the structure. Dorado run strongest from March through July, and trolling rigged ballyhoo or skirted trolling lures along the reef's edges covers water efficiently. King Mackerel take over from November through March, when slow trolling live goggle eyes, live blue runners, or live pilchards over the reef produces steady strikes. Wahoo peak from September through December and fall to high-speed trolling with weighted trolling lures, bullet-head lures, or bonito strips pulled past the structure.
