About Scott Mason-Chaite Reef

Scott Mason-Chaite Reef is an artificial reef in the federal Atlantic waters off Southeast Florida, east of Miami. The structure holds Greater Amberjack and Black Grouper, and Mutton Snapper peak from April through June, when bottom fishing with live ballyhoo, live pilchards, cut bait, or squid works the reef directly. Dorado run strongest from March through July, and trolling rigged ballyhoo, skirted trolling lures, or feathers around the reef's edges targets fish moving along the open water. King Mackerel take over from November through March, with slow trolling live goggle eyes, live blue runners, or live pilchards near the structure. Wahoo peak from September through December and respond to high-speed trolling with weighted trolling lures, bullet-head lures, or trolling plugs worked across the reef.
