About Amt Reef

Amt Reef is an artificial reef in federal Gulf waters off Naples, Florida, where placed structure holds bottom species and draws pelagic fish. Gag Grouper peak here from October through December, and Gray Snapper reach their best numbers from May through July, with Red Snapper, Red Grouper, Greater Amberjack, and King Mackerel also working the reef. Bottom fishing is the dominant approach for gag, with live pinfish, live grunts, live sardines, and cut bait dropped tight to the structure, while jigging with bucktail jigs, metal jigs, or soft plastic swimbaits and trolling deep-diving plugs around the reef edges cover more water. Gray Snapper respond to bottom rigs baited with live shrimp, live pilchards, squid, or cut bait, and a steady chum line of frozen chum blocks or cut sardines pulls them up off the structure.
