About Big Marco Pass
Big Marco Pass is an exposed sand-bottom corridor south of Naples that funnels Gulf water between Marco Island and the backcountry, with depths running from 15 to 35 feet. Tarpon move through from March into August and overlap with Common Snook, which peak April through July, while Gray Snapper hold along the bottom from May into July. Live bait fishing with live pinfish, live mullet, or live threadfin herring covers both tarpon and snook as tide pushes bait through the pass. In fall, Red Drum peak September and October, and Spanish Mackerel return September through November after an earlier March–April run, answering casting with small spoons, jigs, and soft plastics. Winter belongs to Sheepshead from January through March, taken by bottom fishing with live shrimp, fiddler crabs, or sand fleas.
